Here's a picture of a mini painted with the old versions of dip and matte varnish:Īnd here's one where the new versions of both have been used: I switched to a Vallejo matt varnish instead, which is better, but not quite as good as the old AP. Again, the bottles are labelled anti-shine matte varnish just as before, but the content seems quite different. But the newer bottles are almost milky white before drying and the end result is much less matte. This used to be completely clear and gave a super-matte finish. Has anyone else had this problem? Or have I had the misfortune to come across a faulty tin of dip? Could the problem be solved by mixing the strong tone 50/50 with the dark tone perhaps (I havent tried the dark tone)?Īround the same time I also incidentally (or not?) noticed a change in AP:s bottled matt (anti-shine) varnish. But it works less well on my napoleonic Russians, where both the red and the dark green become much too, well, brown! For general shading there needs to be more black in there. The new one works OK with some, as with the Perry US ww2 I am working on right now - they are supposed to be very brown and that's what you get with the new dip. To me, the old version was a good all-round wash to shade all minis. It also seems to take a lot longer to dry and harden, perhaps twice as long (let's say 48 hours vs 24). The new stuff is lighter and much more brown in color. After using it for a while, I realized that this tin contained a "dip" of a very different shade from the old one, even though it is still labelled "strong tone". The army painter bottle washed are slightly thicker than say citadel washes that tent to be more watery. I like them because they make for great staining effects on cloth parts or banners. This is by far the most popular Quicksha. Just apply it with a brush or simply dip your base coated miniatures, shake, and you are almost done. I think, or at least It feels like, the formula is slightly different than the buckets. 29.99 The original Quickshade is different An entirely unique product on the market, it will enable you to paint your the army of your dreams in no time at all. However, I bought a new tin, I think it must have been around a year ago or so. Now the dropper bottle quickshade washes I love. I have used this product for a few years now and I think it has been a very useful thing.
